Woman found dead on riverbank

The dead body of a middle-aged woman in a Wildwood sweatshirt washed up on the bank of the Delaware River in Tacony on March 2 as police happened to be in the area on another assignment.

Investigators are trying to identify the woman. The discovery occurred at about 11:55 a.m. under the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, police said. The woman was described as white, 45 to 55 years old, with red or brown hair and the tourist souvenir sweatshirt. There were no apparent signs of trauma. Determinations of the cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy. ••
